World Book Week 2025

Nationally, Thursday 6th March is World Book Day.  Here at St Mary's, we like to take a whole week to celebrate books and the amazing way that reading can enhance our lives.

This year, the focus for our work is exploring real life, inspirational characters.  We will do this through the use of the 'little people, big dreams' books.

Each class has taken a different person to focus on.  Please have a look at the class pages below to see their work.

On Monday, Mr Quinn held the annual 'Big Book Quiz'.  Children worked together in their house teams to earn as many points as possible by answering questions about books.  Some interesting tie breaker activities took place including speed bounce and adult mallet’s mallet! The winners were BLUE HOUSE.

Tuesday afternoon saw the return of M and M Productions, who treated us to a fantastic performance of 'The Wizard of Oz.'

On Wednesday, author Sean Perkins returned to St. Mary's to share his books and characters with the children in a whole school assembly.  He then worked with individual classes in Reception and Key Stage 2 to provide workshops on different elements of literacy including poetry and personification.

Thursday saw the return of our 'Big Bible Quiz'.  Children worked in their house groups to answer questions about the Bible.  It was a great way to retrieve all the knowledge we have gained so far from whole school worship and RE lessons.  The winners were RED HOUSE.

On Friday, children were invited to come into school dressed as a character from a book.  Parents were invited to take part in a 'costume swap' by bringing in costumes they no longer needed and swapping them with other parents.
