St Mary's CofE Primary School
We love. We learn. We flourish.
This year, we're taking Harvest as an opportunity to explore something really meaningful to us. Our school’s theologically rooted vision is,
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbour as yourself.’
This guides everything we do. So, this year, our focus is,
‘What does loving our neighbour have to do with what we eat?’
From Nursery through to Year 6, the children will be thinking about what we mean by 'our neighbour' and how our choices can affect the Earth and those around us – including future generations. The children will then create and cook a recipe linked to their learning. It's a really engaging way to bring our values to life.
Year | Vision link |
Nursery | How can we show love to others by sharing food?
Food is a gift. We can show love by sharing it and not wasting it. |
Reception | Who helps us get our food?
We can love our neighbours by being thankful for the people and world that provide our food. |
Year 1 | Does everyone have the same food choices that we have?
Loving our neighbour means thinking about other people’s needs, not just our own. |
Year 2 | Why is wasting food a problem?
When we waste less food, we waste less of the world’s resources. |
Year 3 | Does where our food comes from matter?
Loving our neighbour means thinking about the impact of our choices, not just what is convenient for us. |
Year 4 | Can changing what we eat help care for God’s creation?
Our food choices affect God’s creation so choosing thoughtfully can be one way of caring for our neighbours. |
Year 5 | Who might be affected by the food I choose?
Loving our neighbour means considering people we may never meet. |
Year 6 | How do our food choices affect the environment?
Loving our neighbour isn’t only about how we treat someone standing in front of us. It can also mean thinking about farmers, communities around the world, creation and the people who live after us. |
Harvest Donations
As part of our Harvest project, we're asking the children to bring in items for our local foodbank. They are feeding more families than ever and are in need of cereal, pasta and any tinned fish, vegetables, fruit or meat.
Harvest Festival
Our Harvest Festival Service will take place in Church on Wednesday 30th Septebmer at 9am. All members of our community are welcome to join us to worship.
