St Mary's CofE Primary School - 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind...Love your neighbour as yourself.' Matthew 22 v37-40

St Mary's CofE Primary School

We love. We learn. We flourish.

Year 5

Monday

We started the week by looking at fictional animal characters in books.  Characters from books including the Gruffalo, Elmer the Elephant and Where the Wild Things Are are have some characteristics of real life animals but are fictitious.

Each child explored ideas before creating their animal character to work with this week.

Tuesday

We brought our characters to life by completing fact files about them. We created information about their habitat, diet, appearance and other fun facts.

Wednesday

After finishing our fact files, we used them to create non-chronological reports about our animals.  The facts in each section were turned into a paragraph under subheadings.

Friday

We started the day by creating front covers for our animal books.

In the ICT Suite, we then used Word to type up our non-chronological reports.  We added page borders and edited the font.  Finally, we added a photograph of our animal.

Year 6 read us a chapter from a story they had selected. They brought it to life with actions and movement.
