St Mary's CofE Primary School
We love. We learn. We flourish.
This term, Year 2 have been exploring the fascinating topic of habitats around the world. The children have learned about a variety of environments, including forests, deserts, oceans and polar regions, and have discovered how living things are specially adapted to survive in each one.
As part of our learning, the children explored the Arctic and Antarctic regions in more detail. They identified key differences between these two cold environments and learned about the animals that live there. We then chose one animal from the Arctic and one from Antarctica to draw.
As part of our outdoor learning, the children explored the school grounds to investigate soil habitats. Working in the grass and soil, they observed what they could find living beneath the surface and in damp areas. The children investigated, measured and recorded their findings, learning how to compare results between different locations. They looked closely at the conditions of the soil, such as how damp it was, and discussed how this can affect which living things are found there.
