Science Week 2024 - Into the Wild (Biology Focus)
For Science Week is year, our Year 6 Science Ambassadors (Dylan and Nicole) decided we should focus animals. We created the theme 'Into the Wild' and we decided to focus on endangered animals. Each class was given a critically endangered animal to focus on:
Nursery – Sunda Tiger
Reception – African Forest Elephants
Year 1 – Yangtze Finless Porpoise
Year 2 – Javan Rhino
Year 3 – Hawksbill Turtle
Year 4 – Sumatran Orangutans
Year 5 – Vaquita Dolphin
Year 6 – Amur Leopard
During the week, we had a visit from Chester Zoo. KS1 had an insect themed workshop and KS2 had a nutrition workshop. They then held a whole school assembly on how to create our own zoo! The children saw lots of animal artifacts, such as skulls and insects (see the pictures below). Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 also had a workshop from a volunteer at the Blue Cross who explained what pets need to be happy!
At the end of Science Week, each class presented what they had learnt on their endangered animal. We had lots of different presentations, including dances, music and Powerpoint presentations. The whole school loved seeing all the animals!
