St Mary's CofE Primary School
We love. We learn. We flourish.
On Friday 8th November 2024, we held our Science and Engineering day.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities relating to the 2025 National Science Week theme of 'Change and Adapt'.
The day started with a launch assembly where our task for the day was unveiled.
Mr Newall and Mr Quinn were enjoying a sing song with the school during assembly. Mr Newall was playing the electric guitar and Mr Quinn was on the electric piano when disaster struck. A workman cut through the electric cable feed to the hall meaning that the instruments wouldn't work!
Each class was tasked with creating musical instruments that could be used without electricity. Children had to use materials that could be upcycled - cardboard boxes, tubes, straws and bottle lids.
At the end of the day, we came together in the hall to play our instruments.
These activities were linked to the National Curriculum objectives for Maths, Science, Design Technology and Music for Key Stages 1 and 2. For EYFS, they were linked to the Early Learning Goals and Development Matters document.
