St Mary's CofE Primary School

We love. We learn. We flourish.

Spanish Day

On Friday 3rd May, we held our 'Spanish Day'.

Spanish is the Modern Foreign Language taught here at St. Mary's and we wanted to take the opportunity to enrich the whole school with all things Spanish!

Children were asked to wear red, yellow or a Spanish themed outfit.  We had an amazing array of flamenco dancers, matadors and all shades of red and yellow.

During the school day, children took part in activities linking Spanish to our wider curriculum.

Links included:

Geography - The position of Spain and the continent it is part of.  It's capital city and physical features.

PE - Spanish sports stars and flamenco dancing.

PSHE - Discussing our likes and dislikes in Spanish.

DT - Cooking traditional Spanish food.

RE - Focusing on a landmark in Spain that links to our topic e.g. The Tower of Hercules is a lighthouse.  Year 4 discussed it in relation to Jesus as the light of the World.

Art - Creating representations of famous landmarks or focusing on famous Spanish artists.

Literacy - Learning Spanish rhymes and listening to well known stories read in Spanish.

Maths - Spanish counting, telling the time and saying the day and date.
