St Mary's CofE Primary School - 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind...Love your neighbour as yourself.' Matthew 22 v37-40

St Mary's CofE Primary School

We love. We learn. We flourish.

Year 4

We have had a fun filled week:

Monday- Big Book Quiz, animal themed group reading and a Scholastic Live Lesson with Author James Fox

Tuesday-  more animal themed English lessons with short animation ‘The Present, m&m production of Jungle book.

Wednesday- big bible quiz, more work based on the short animation ‘the present’ and some children brought their favourite picture books in and we all shared our stories and explained why we recommend them.

Thursday - we met an inspiring author in assembly, took part in the BBC World Book Day Live Lessons and worked through the reading passport to find our ‘reading vibe’. In the afternoon, we read The Bear and The Piano. The children were able to make predictions throughout and we discussed emotions throughout. At the end, we spoke about how the bear had everything he could dream of but he missed his friends and family.

The children spoke about where, when and how they like to read. We spoke about different genres and made a plan of what type of book we would like to read next.

Friday- fancy dress fun and lots of reading. We have had a fun filled day, completing book themes activities and we had the pleasure of watching some of the Year Six children perform and read an extract from

‘Reggie Houser Has the Power‘ (which has been selected from our reading book spine) and we are all now looking forward to reading this when we are in Year Five)
