Learning about Scotland

Nursery

We introduced Sports week by learning all out about The Commonwealth Games! We found out that this year they will be held in Glasgow, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Together we discovered that there are lots of different sports that men and women compete in, some that we had never heard of before!
We found Scotland on the map and had some creative fun painting some Scottish flags! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Year 5

During Sports Week, we researched facts about Scotland and recorded them on a 'Top Trumps' style card.

We looked at coats of arms and family crests. These were first used in the 12th Century, across Europe, as a way of identifying soldiers on the battlefield or in a tournament. We found out what different colours and animals meant if they were included in a design.

We designed our own, which had to include:

1) A shield

2) Two supporters holding the shield up

3) A helmet on top of the shield with a crest

4) Our family name underneath
