Learning about Scotland
Year 5
During Sports Week, we researched facts about Scotland and recorded them on a 'Top Trumps' style card.
We looked at coats of arms and family crests. These were first used in the 12th Century, across Europe, as a way of identifying soldiers on the battlefield or in a tournament. We found out what different colours and animals meant if they were included in a design.
We designed our own, which had to include:
1) A shield
2) Two supporters holding the shield up
3) A helmet on top of the shield with a crest
4) Our family name underneath
