National School Sports Week 2026
This year, our theme for National School Sports Week is 'The Commonwealth Games'. From the 23rd July - 2nd August 2026, they will take place in Glasgow.
We have a fun filled week where pupils will take part in activities involving Commonwealth sports and learn all about the host, Glasgow, Scotland.
The week will begin with an opening ceremony. Pupils will learn all about the Commonwealth countries and their shared values. They will see the sports featured in the Commonwealth Games and how they link to the activities they will complete across the week.
Following the opening ceremony, we will be taking part in the Tameside School Sport Partnership Baton relay. Just like the real Commonwealth countries complete the King's Baton Relay before the games, we will receive a replica 2012 Olympic torch from Fairfield Road Primary School and parade it around St Mary's before taking it to Moorside. In total, the Baton will travel around to 32 different Tameside Primary Schools to signify the start of National School Sports Week.
Here is a breakdown of some of the activities we will complete this week...
