St Mary's CofE Primary School
We love. We learn. We flourish.
On Tuesday 1st April, we had a visit from Tom who is a 'Mad Scientist!'
He works for 'Mad Science' and delivered a fun and engaging assembly all about Science.
Tom shared with us some of the Science behind sport.
We looked at reaction times for the 100m sprint, with both Michael and Mrs Barratt being tested.
Then, Tom moved onto discuss cycling and the importance of tight clothing to reduce air resistance. Hannah helped with an experiment to demonstrate the affect of air resistance. The air flowed around the smaller ball better so it stayed closer to the blower. The smaller ball was more aerodynamic than the larger one.
Finally, Tom talked to us about the Olympic Flame and how it stays lit throughout the duration of the game. Minnie helped to demonstrate by lighting our 'Olympic Flame.'
There will be a 'Mad Science' after school club starting on Friday 25th April. Please see the leaflet brought home by your child for how to sign up. The club has a cost as it is run and resourced by the Mad Science company.
