Book Week 2026

Monday

Monday started with a bang with the annual Big Book Quiz led by Mr Quinn. Children were separated into their house groups and worked in teams to answer questions about books.

There were some interesting tiebreaker rounds involving both pupils and staff.

Overall, Blue house were the winners.

A staff tie breaker!

Tuesday

The fantastic M and M Productions returned to school with a performance of ‘The Jungle Book’.

Wednesday

The day started with our annual Big Bible Book Quiz.  Mrs Jones led the quiz and children sat in house groups to answer.  The quiz was based around the topics that children cover in their RE lessons and their recall of facts was fantastic!  The staff also had their round with buzzers that called out their names.  Mr Newall had a problem with his buzzer (that was his excuse anyway!).

There had to be a tiebreaker question between Green and Blue house.

In the end, Green house were the winners.

Thursday

Ben Andrews is a local author, who visited to introduce us to his book series.  Ben is registered blind and has written books about how places can be made better for people with disabilities.

We looked at the example of 'Nicky and Candy's Street.'  This book is about a girl who is blind and is helped by Candy, which is her white support stick.  The story looks at dangers in the environment and how we could make it safer for Nicky to get to her friend's house.

Ben led a fun competition of limboing under his white stick!

Then, the children learnt chants to help clear the streets for Nicky and Candy.

The children were able to ask Ben some questions

'How did you feel making the books?' Sienna Y4

'How long did it take you to write the book?' Ryan Y3

'How hard is it having a disability and writing a book?' Laila Y3

'Have you got any other books that you have written?' Eivissa Y4

Friday

Our Year 6 class spent time choosing a book to read to each class taking into consideration the age and interests of the children. They then practised how they would bring it to life through a dramatic performance.  The classes absolutely loved it!
We also spent the day dressed as our favourite book characters!
