St Mary's CofE Primary School
We love. We learn. We flourish.
This half term in maths, we will be developing our early number skills through lots of hands-on play and exploration. The children will be learning to take and give 1, 2 and 3 objects, and to match quantities by talking about what they can see. We will be exploring pushing and pulling as we play, helping children understand how objects move and interact.
We will also be subitising to 3, recognising small amounts without counting, by looking closely at dots and small collections. The children will be comparing and sorting groups of objects, noticing which has more, fewer or the same. As their confidence grows, they will be encouraged to lead their own repeated actions and patterns during play. Through these fun and meaningful experiences, the children are building strong foundations in number, problem-solving and mathematical language.
