St Mary's CofE Primary School
We love. We learn. We flourish.
On Thursday, we harvested some apples from the school garden. We talked about how this is what Stone Age humans would have to do to gather food.
On Friday morning, we had to work out the measurements for our recipe. We used our +/- 10/100 learning from the week to calculate how much of each ingredient we would need.
We then plotted our measurements onto a number line. This is another skill we have built in maths this week.
After break, we started to prepare our ingredients. We measured out the oats, sugar and butter using a weighing scales. The children used their knowledge of number lines to help work out where on the scales we needed to reach.
We needed 3 tbsp of golden syrup for each bowl of mixture so we used out 3x tables to work out how much golden syrup we needed altogether.
Then, we added a handful of raisins and apple.
After lunch, we baked our flapjack and wrote up our set of instructions. We have been learning about sentence functions this week in literacy and we realised that instructions are full of commands. We made our instructions descriptive by adding lots of expanded noun phrases.
Finally, after a hard day's work, we sat down to enjoy our flapjack. Well done, Year 3!
