St Mary's CofE Primary School
This week we are learning to spell compound words:
football
playground
farmyard
bedroom
blackberry
lighthouse
sometimes
bathroom
classroom
teatime
In mental maths we will be revising our addition and subtraction facts to ten (number bonds to ten). The children need to understand both the addition and subtraction facts to ten:
E.g.
8+2=10
2+8=10
10-8=2
10-2=8
In the test they could be asked questions in the following formats:
7+__=10
__+3=10
10 -__=3
10 -__=7
In class we usually put our number facts into a bar model so we find it easier to work out the addition and subtraction facts. E.G:
10 | |
5 | 5 |
We can clearly see that the two 5s are added together to make the ten and if we takeaway one of the fives from the ten, we are left with 5.
So 5+5=10
10-5=5
If the children are struggling to remember their number bonds to ten, use fingers. We have ten of them :)
